Ways to Save Money After the Holidays

During the Holidays, it’s always exciting to buy and wrap gifts for the whole family, decorate, and attend festive events. There is nothing more special than seeing the look on a loved one's face when they experience the magic of the winter holidays. Unfortunately, after the lights are taken down, and the tinsel is away, you may be looking for a way to save some money.

Don’t worry! After the Holidays, there are ways that you can get back on track and start financially fit during the new year.

The tips below highlight just some of the ways you can save money after the Holidays.

  • Make a New Year’s Budget (And stick to it!)

Before making your New Year’s budget, it’s essential to consider your needs, wants, and priorities. By keeping this list in your mind, it will help you stay on track and help you to limit your spending.

Make yourself notes and reminders to stick with your plan. Buy yourself a calendar and stick it on your refrigerator! On the first of every month, write down all the bills and things you need to pay throughout the month.

  • Bundle Up to Save on Your Heating Bill!

Did you know you can save money on your heating bill by keeping the heat between 65-68 degrees? Wear your favorite comfy ‘ugly’ holiday sweater and comfy socks! Also, using window insulator kits can help block the draft and keep the heat inside.

Don’t let the heat you’re paying for go out the window (LITERALLY!)

  • Use Coupon Websites & Mobile Coupon Apps

This next way of saving money is one that I personally LOVE. Now that everyone is online shopping, new websites and mobile apps that give you coupons have become popular in the past couple of years.

You already have to shop online for some of your favorite items; why not make some cash back!

Here is a list of a few sites that will save you $$$!

There are a bunch more! Feel free to share the knowledge if you know a coupon site that should be on this list!

  • Thrifting is Where it’s At!

Need some new furniture? How about a new outfit for an event? Head on over to a Savers, Salvation Army, or any other second-hand store where you can pick up dresser sets, dining room tables, and much for more, sometimes 75% off. Second-hand stores are great for getting clothing for any occasion without breaking the bank.

The crazy part is that many of the donated shirts and pantsed still have the tags on them!

  • Part-Time Seasonal Jobs

If possible, try and find a flexible part-time job where you could work one or two days a week to pay an extra monthly bill or even to start a savings account. Many companies are even offering sign-on bonuses, higher hourly rates, and health insurance due to the lack of available workers.

Can’t leave your home? Try selling some items on apps such as Poshmark or LetGo! This allows you to get rid of unnecessary items while still making a little cash. Also, heading into a consignment shop with a bag of clothes is another way to make some side money.

Although the lights are coming down and the holidays are coming to a close - that doesn’t mean you can’t be excited to enter 2022 financially fit!

By following the tips listed above and registering for a Dora Everyday Account that allows for surcharge-free ATM withdrawals at 30,000 locations, no monthly fees, no surprise fees, and a completely bilingual experience - Financial Independence can be yours in 2022!
